The Lord has been speaking to me lately about how simple a relationship is with Him. Simple, but at times not easy. The “not easy” part is due to spiritual warfare. After all, let’s not forget there is an enemy who hates the loving relationship we have with our Savior. There’s a reason Ephesians 6:11 says the following; “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (KJV). When knights in medieval times put on their armor it was for a reason; to do battle with an enemy. We as Christians must do the same, daily. Fortunately the bible also tells us in James 4:7 that if we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil he will flee.
The simple part of a relationship with Jesus means getting back to the basics. We repent of our sins and accept Him as our Savior. Then we love Him and others as He has loved us. There are a few other basic, (yet very important), details such as praying, reading the bible, and being baptized in water But overall it’s not really that complicated.
The reality of it is this: Fall in love with Jesus! I didn’t need any help falling in love with my wife decades ago. Never read a book on the topic, no seminars, teleseminars, personal consultations, endless weekly meetings, etc. Nor did I send any money to a TV or radio preacher in exchange for a prayer cloth or other useless trinket. I just simply fell in love with her – can’t explain it, but it happened.
The same with my relationship with Jesus. I am so overwhelmed that He would be born a man, then suffer and die for my sins. #MindBlown !! Who does something like that? Jesus! It’s all about LOVE. Grab a hold of that truth and run with it!!
Prayer time doesn’t happen just once a day for a few minutes – after all, if you were / are in a loving relationship with someone, how long would that last if you only spoke with them 3 minutes a day? Likely not very long. The same goes for a loving relationship with The Lord. My prayers are mostly conversations with Him that happen throughout the day. Most of the time I’m either sharing what’s on my heart or thanking Him for all the ways He impacts my life on a daily basis (look around, it’s more than you realize!) Then once in a while I ask Him for something (usually on behalf of others) – even though He already knows our needs, He still likes us to ask Him.
I’m in love with my wife. No denying that! I like speaking with her throughout the day, sharing time and meals together, brainstorming new ideas, surprising her with gifts, celebrating good moments, holding her in the tough times, and letting her know that I’m here no matter what.
So, fall in love with Jesus and remember to do the same. Behave like someone in love, with The Lord.
